In this regard, the Department endeavours at all times to be informative, educational and motivational, especially to the tourist guiding sector which is in a process being recognised as an attractive profession, particularly, by the younger generation. Tour of Groote Schuur House

The former Cape Town residence of the state president, the gabled Groote Schuur ('Big Barn') was originally built in 1667 to serve as the VOC's granary before it was bought by Cecil John Rhodes in 1893 and converted into a grand mansion and office. Along with the building, Rhodes bought several other properties on Table Mountain's eastern slopes during the late 19th century, Rhodes died in 1910 and bequeathed his estate to the nation.

Modderfontein Heritage Day

Heritage month is being celebrated by the Modderfontein Conservation Society with conducted walks round the heritage precinct of the village and a talk by Jonathan Stone, a highly respected  Heritage Architect.

Walks will take place on Heritage Day – 24 September – at 09:00.  The talk will take place in the Modderfontein Town Hall at 1 Casino Road – opposite the bowls club – at 19:30 on Thursday 20 September.
