With the launching of The Institute of Professional Tourist Guides of SA (IPTGSA) in 2017 the vision to promote and maintain a platform of recognised professional Tourist Guides in Southern Africa was an important guiding principle driving the establishment of the Institute, with the following paramount values: Integrity, Ethics, Excellence, Professionalism.
The past five years of existence as an institute have been beneficial in the sense that it has moved the Institute away from its infancy. The experience gained through the trying times of Covid-19 has helped to enhance the endeavors of the Institute.
Developments in the National Department of Tourism (NDT) presented in early 2022 envision the future professionalisation of the tourism industry at large. This positions the Institute for South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) professional body registration, favorably.
This means the tourism industry has passed a milestone on the road to professionalisation which will enhance and contribute to the development of professional tourist guiding.
This filters through to ultimately becoming able to invest and support members by improving their capacity and abilities, which will be done by guides for guides.
The announced professionalisation in the tourism industry creates a not previously had opportunity, for beneficial dialogue for tourist guides.
Tourism stakeholders are invited to objectively interact with the IPTGSA
